I touch the future. I teach. Right now I teach applied linguistics and coordinate some graduate teacher certification programs for language and English as a Second/Foreign Language teachers. Once upon a time I taught EFL at the Haitian-American Institute in Port-au-Prince. I love Haiti and the Haitian people and have been heartsick at the terrible tragedy. I love teaching, and I love language and the way it works. But I am rather obsessively drawn to technology which, unlike applied linguistics, I have NEVER formally studied. So I am always looking for techie things that can help my students deliver their lessons.

In my spare time, I blog about Hillary. Then there was this.

Because of what Hillary said there, I decided to submit a proposal for a presentation for teachers about how to find and use free Web 2.0 tools to reach out beyond their classrooms. I recruited as a co-presenter a Facebook friend who teaches ESL. We had never met face to face until the day of the presentation. Oddly, I began developing the presentation as a Power Point - TWICE! Finally the absurdity struck me, and I made it a blog. Since then, I have been collecting blogs and websites, mostly on Twitter, and sharing them at my blog which I named for a phrase Hillary used: Every Creative Gene.

So there it sat, with some of my Haitian relief links in the sidebar. I really wished I could do more for Haiti, but did not know what. One thing I know is that Haiti badly needs teachers. Many teachers were killed. If we are going to assure all Haitian kids an education, we need to recruit teachers for Haiti. I joined this organization: The New Haiti Project. Now I am going to use my blog to try to recruit teachers, as well. Check out the Project site! There are lots of interesting projects. Maybe there is something you can do to help.

(News just came through the Bill Clinton has had a heart procedure, and Hillary is on her way to him. I am praying for his complete recovery.)
