Sojourner Truth was an extraordinary American hero, and thanks to the work of Hillary Clinton in the Senate and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee in the House, Sojourner will finally be recognized with a statue in the Capitol -- the first African American woman to be so honored!

Thursday morning, I went to the White House for President Obama’s signing of his first piece of legislation, the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act. It was an event of great spirit. On the platform and in the room were enthusiastic advocates and supporters. The applause for Secretary Clinton was stirring as guests acknowledged her leading role in pressing for this legislation. Then, President Obama and Lily Ledbetter entered the room and again, the outburst of applause was moving.

We all know these are tough times in the economy right now. As so many families juggle lay offs, college education, care for aging parents - it can be difficult to know where to turn.
