A place where a generation born from rape are now being viciously raped. She visited The Democratic Republic of Congo.

Judge Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed by a Senate vote of 68-31 this afternoon. She will be the 111th person to sit on the Supreme Court. The third woman justice. The first Hispanic justice.

Today Secretary of State Hillary Clinton jumpstarted her 11-day trip to seven different African countries. She will be making stops in Kenya, South Africa, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Liberia and Cape Verde. In recent blog posts we have written about the terror and abuse that women and girls face in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other nations. Secretary Clinton’s extensive, solution-oriented trip shows her dedication to achieving human rights throughout Africa.

With a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee of 13 to 6 to send Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the full Senate, Sotomayor is one more step closer to joining our United States Supreme Court. The Senate is expected to vote on Sotomayor’s confirmation by the end of next week.
