Health Care Reform – Another Step Closer

By Liz Wing on 03/22/2010 @ 02:28 PM

In a late-night session last night, we came a big step closer to passing health care reform with a 219 to 212 vote in the House of Representatives. Just a few months ago the Senate passed the same bill.

From our earliest days at No Limits, you told us how important health care reform was to you. Passage of the health care bill by the Congress last night is an historic achievement - and good news for American families. Among the many achievements in the health care bill are a ban denying coverage for pre-existing conditions and an end to gender discrimination and many predatory insurance practices.

It is expected that the President will sign the bill tomorrow. The Senate this week is also expected to debate and pass the reconciliation bill, which includes modifications to the underlying health reform bill that was agreed to by the White House and House and Senate Democratic leaders. The House passed this bill last night, after it passed the main health care bill, by a vote of 220 to 211.

It has been a long journey, and we thank you for all that you have done along the way. Our members wrote and called their congressional representatives urging real reform that expands coverage and controls costs but without sacrificing a woman's reproductive rights. We joined the Stop Stupak: Pass Health Care Reform coalition. Together, we have made history, and soon this legislation will help save lives and improve the health care of millions of Americans.
