Congrats, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords!
By Liz Wing on 08/17/2011 @ 04:30 PM
We have written about Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the past, and we were thrilled to see her return to the House of Representatives for a vote just weeks ago.
Today we celebrate another achievement for the resilient leader. Giffords was recently named a National Athena Award winner. The Athena Award goes to individuals who embody strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment. Previous winners include Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and former NASA astronaut Sally Ride.
Pia Carusone, Giffords' chief of staff, said: "The congresswoman considers it her responsibility to help other women excel in their chosen fields, whether it is public service, private business, the nonprofit world or raising a family. We know that many young women consider the congresswoman a role model and she takes that very seriously."
Her courage and commitment to helping women excel is something we can all applaud!
