| Summary |
The panel of experts will analyse the significance and impacts of the US ratifying the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
|
| Description |
CEDAW advocates and supporters succeeded in securing a hearing in Congress November 2010 for the Convention of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) for the first time in decades. Although the UN General Assembly adopted CEDAW in 1979 and President Carter signed it, CEDAW has not made it out of Congressional Committee. This panel discussion on International Women's Day will analyze the historical significance of DECAW and debate the impacts of ratifying the convention. Presenters include:
Jennifer Krafchik, Director of Collections, Sewall-Belmont House & Museum
Sarah Albert, Washington Director, The National Committee on the United Nation Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
Erica Swanson, Deputy Director for Field Operations, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
There will be time at the end of the presentation for audience questions.
The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited to first 100 people to register.
